I'm dr. Thielen stylist and I'm a certified orthodontist here in the braces place today I want to talk to you about tone tree the number of where the dying patients have problems with their bite that even orthodontists can't correct unless they change their tongue habits some patients have bad tongue habits where they stick their tongue between their teeth this causes something called an overbite if they stick their tongues between their teeth they create something called an anterior by if they stick their tongue between their back teeth they create something called a posterior or lateral open light so the question is what can North Adonis do to fix this problem and the answer is nothing unless you change your habit so how do you change your habit and what's the proper position of the tongue come closer this is a model of your teeth the proper tongue position is the tongue should be up in the roof of the mouth in what I call the end position the end position is the position of the tongue if you're making the sound and and holding that position you'll notice that the tongue is basically just touching the insides of all of the upper teeth the tongue is not below the biting surfaces of those teeth at any time and it's important that the tongue is not putting any pressure on the teeth it's only lightly touching the teeth that's its position next part is its activity the active experience the tongue should have when it's in its proper rest position is suction suction means that the tongue is sucked up into the roof of the mouth so that it creates a pop if you were to break the suction so the roof of the mouth we want pressure right here the tongue in the end position and creating suction in that position and you should be able to hold that often what you need to do is create a wet palette by putting some saliva on your palate then putting your tongue in that position creating the ending sound suctioning then suctioning a little bit tighter and then holding it and then when you're practicing you can pop that and it'll make the sound when you're doing that now back up a little bit let's go through that a little bit together down the process it is wet your palate sometimes you might need to drink something you don't need to drink much just get a little bit of a drop of wetness on the roof of your mouth then create the end sound and then suction then tighten the suction then relax your lips and then hold it and then to figure out how much suction you're actually created you can pop it so now I'm going to walk through this and I'm just going to point to it as I'm doing it I hope that helps if you want to you can also print out a version of what we just went through and call mine on our website thank you and have a great day
